great idea's poster

created for a science-focused poster exhibition submission to the chicago museum of science and industry, this piece reimagines a quote by miyamoto musashi using personalized illustration and custom typography. the background image is based on a childhood photo with my father, digitally edited and traced in illustrator to preserve the emotional significance. the font was hand-drawn and developed from scratch to capture both cosmic wonder and human intimacy. the visual composition merges science, art, and memory, underscoring the message that broader perspectives lead to deeper understanding. what i was working with // a science-themed poster submission using a personal photograph. i edited and traced it in illustrator, then built an original font from scratch to carry the quote. the challenge was designing something personal that could also speak to a universal message. what stuck with me // the quote felt like it applied to science and to life. i wanted the type to feel intentional and raw, and the image to carry emotion without being too literal. building the font by hand gave me control, but also forced me to slow down and be precise. that balance of feeling and structure stayed with me. what came out of it // a poster layered with personal memory and typographic discipline. the final design blends custom illustration, painted texture, and type into a full print-ready piece. submitted on archival cardstock to the chicago museum of science as part of their 2025 great ideas collection.
